Install Qnap Software On Pc

The software should allow me to set a sync schedule that will check for changes every few minutes. I know Windows 10 has a sync capability, but it is not enabled for Windows 10 Home so I need a single solution that I can install on each Windows 10 system.

Thank you all for the advice. I did install FreeFileSync on my laptop and it seems to be working fine so far. I configured it to run as a batch job, via task scheduler, at login and every 10 minutes. I plan to install and test it on my desktop later this week.

The installer includes a glibc, libstdc++ (static) x86_64 build, and completely static Android NDK builds (bionic libc, LLVM libc++) for x86, x86_64, ARMv6+, ARM64. On x86_64 it will try to use the glibc build first and fall back to the Android NDK build if that does not work.

The 1st requirement: your QNAP needs lots of RAM. QNAP / Intel claim the processor used in the T451D2 supports maximal 8G RAM. I inserted 2x Kingston KCP426SS8/8 to replace the single Adata 4Gby RAM module. As the above screenshot shows: the NAS reports (and uses) 16Gby RAM. Probably the installed gitlab edition works with 3-6Gby if only a few / single user access it. However, that would result an 8Gby equipped QNAP NAS has (nearly) no free RAM as the NAS requires about 2Gby for its other tasks.

Note QNAP container station has a gitlab version pre-installed. I did not install because it's an older version (V11 or so) vs. the docker images (V14). The pre-installed version also requires 3 'runners' instead of one.

The first time one connects to the QNAP gitlab runner, an additional message may appear on the client "add to known hosts". Confirm with typing yes and press . In this case, the host information is added to the known_hosts file located in the.ssh directory of your client computers' home drive. Remind if something gets changed in your installation, that known-host question pops up again. It's not a bad idea to clean out the known_hosts file from time to time if one makes a lot of changes in the network configuration.

If one installs Windows winmerge, one may add the following in the .gitconfig file located in your home drive (If git is already configured, this file contains your email & user name). Winmerge is a far better tool for comparing source code and since quite some time it's completely updated for use with git. Add all bold statements:

Comet Backup continues to support Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 and will install successfully on these operating systems. However, Microsoft ended Extended support for Windows 7, and Server 2008 R2 on January 14th 2020. Future versions of Comet may remove support for such older versions of Windows which are no longer under active security support from Microsoft.

With username and passwordComet allows you to install and configure the software silently, by running install.exe /S /CONFIGURE=user:password via your remote management software. Silent installations must be started by running from the installer directory.

With install token (passwordless)Comet also allows you to install the software and register the device silently, by running install.exe /S /TOKEN=installtoken via your remote management software. Silent installations must be started by running from the installer directory.

You can generate the installation token by calling API AdminCreateInstallToken and the token is for a single use only. It can be used to hide the username and password from the command-line parameters.

Disable shortcutsComet allows you to disable the software shortcuts for the silent installation, by adding command-line argument /SHORTCUT="disable". For example, if you want to install with token while no shortcuts are created, you can run the command-line install.exe /S /TOKEN=installtoken /SHORTCUT="disable"

Log on backup.delegate service as Local System accountComet allows you to explicitly set backup.delegate service to log on as Local System account for the silent installation, by adding command-line argument /ISLOCALSYSTEM="yes"

On a Domain Controller running Windows Server 2008 R2 or later, we recommend configuring a Managed Service Account inside Active Directory for the backup service. This allows you to isolate the backup service permissions in a password-less service account. You should apply this to the backup.delegate service (but not the backup.elevator service, used for software updates).

If the product name is changed as a result of the installation process, the newly-branded software may be installed into the old-branded directory name. You can avoid this issue by completely uninstalling and reinstalling the software.

The macOS operating system requires codesigning to be enabled in order to launch a downloaded .pkg file. If you have not configured codesigning for macOS, you will be unable to launch the installer. However, you can bypass this by right-clicking the .pkg file and choosing Open.

Comet allows you to install and configure the software silently, by running the below command via your remote management software. Silent installations must be started by running from the installer directory.

Comet also allows you to install the software and register the device silently, by running the below command via your remote management software. Silent installations must be started by running from the installer directory.

macOS 10.14 Mojave and later have added a requirement to grant the "Full Disk Access" permission. macOS does not allow programs to set this permission automatically and it cannot be set as part of the silent install with the above instructions.

However, if you are intending to use the silent install feature via an RMM software that acts as the device's MDM (e.g. Jamf / Addigy / Meraki Systems Manager / ...) then you can set a Privacy Preferences Policy Control (PPPC) that remotely enables the "Full Disk Access" option for Comet Backup's application ID. The application ID for Comet Backup can be customized via your Comet Server as part of the macOS client branding settings.

In Comet 21.9.10 and later, you can also remove the saved credentials manually prior to uninstallation by running the /Applications/Comet Backup.app/Contents/MacOS/backup-tool login disconnect command.

DSM 6 only: Installation of packages published by any publisher must be allowed before Comet can be installed. This setting can be enabled from the Package Center; in Settings > General > Trust Level, select the "Any publisher" radio button and accept the settings.

You can set an environment variable in bash either on the same line (e.g. WRITE_INSTALL_LOG=install.log ./Comet_Backup-xx.x.x.run) or as a separate export command (e.g. export WRITE_INSTALL_LOG=install.log followed by ./Comet_Backup-xx.x.x.run).

Note: If you execute the .run installation script as root, this may have different results than if you execute the .run script using an elevated terminal session with 'sudo'. The 'sudo' command preserves the $HOME variable on Ubuntu; whilst on Debian the $HOME variable is erased, and sudo then sets it to the home directory of the originating user.

However, the process management in systemd is not fully compatible with the way Comet's multi-process model works. In particular, there are compatibility issues with the software updater. As a result, the above unit is (A) unable to take advantage of process group cleanup; (B) unable to auto-restart the Comet Backup agent service; and (C) after a software upgrade, Comet will keep running but the unit will remain in "exited" state.

After installing Comet Backup for Linux for command-line usage, you can launch the /opt/CometBackup/backup-interface program. It is not necessary to launch this program as root; it will communicate with the installed Comet Backup background service regardless of what user account it runs as.
